Can I use a swimming pool for a heat dump when using a heat pump for air conditioning a house?

heating and air conditioning
Tim asked:

Rather than circulating fluid in the ground, I want to use the waste heat from a heat-pump based air conditioning to heat a swimming pool. From experience, what are the possibilities and tradeoffs?

Well I have made plenty of heated dumps in my pool. But I got tired of the floating snicker bar look the next day so I stopped drinking.

Its actually quite a good idea. As long as you can maintain the temperature differences that work for you and can switch to something else when the differences no longer work to your advantage.
