googleme asked:
The house cools and heats without a problem. The air conditioning unit looks brand new and so does the thermostat, but the air conditioner continues to run once the desired temp is reached. We have to turn it off manually by turning the unit to the off position. I believe it must have been installed incorrectly. What can I do to fix this? The thermostat is a programmable Braeburn model.

When you say the A/C continues to run do you mean the indoor fan continues to run or the outdoor section runs?
Check your fan switch on the thermostat, it should be in auto for the indoor fan to cycle.
If the heating or cooling was stuck on it would overheat or over-cool.

looks like a bad thermostat.

Your thermostat has two settings for the fan portion of the unit. In AUTO the indoor blower turns on and off automatically at the right speed for heating or a/c. When it is in the ON position, the indoor blower runs constantly and only on the high speed winding. When it is in AUTO the indoor blower runs on the low speed winding when heat is called for and the high speed winding when a/c is called for. If your fan switch is in the auto position and the unit never turns off, there is a problem with the thermostat set points or the wiring.
