I have a large Trane Heat Pump in my home. My question is this, The thermostat is placed on the wall in the hallway directly under the air intake and the filter is located above in the ceiling. It seems like this is the coldest and draftiest place in the home because it is where the intake is drawing in the air. Wouldn’t the system do a better job if I relocated the thermostat to a place where the air temperature is more constant?

If the heater fan is in the “auto” position on the thermostat I can hear the heater click to go on but the air doesn’t come out of the vent, but if I turn the fan to “auto” the heat comes out fine but the fan will stay ON all the time. Shouldn’t the heater work on the “auto” setting like the A/C does? The maintenance person replaced the thermostat with a new Honeywell digital.
